Free Books From Random House

Back when before I discovered the internet, I was a voracious reader. I would read anything and everything, including whatever text on food packaging. I would read magazines, newspapers, books and all, except school books. That’s probably why I dropped out of school. SIGH!

And then along came the internet and I started reading everything on the screen and stopped reading REAL books. How I miss flipping through the pages and the smell of books.

Here are a few free books courtesy of Random House. The concept of reading it forward is where you would request for a free book and then pass it on to someone else after you have finished reading it. I love this concept, especially if the book is really good and I get to share the story with someone else and we could discuss the plot. And if the storyline is exceptional, I would want to buy and keep a copy too!

Free Pirate Code Booklet

A friend told me that if I change the language on Facebook, there is an option to select Pirate’s English. I didn’t bother to check if this was true or how my Facebook page would turn out to be if I did select that as my default language. I wouldn’t understand it, anyway.

If you, unlike me, have an inner pirate in you, here’s something that should interest you courtesy of Golden Age Stories. I once featured Golden Age Stories before when they offered a free Golden Age ebook, L. Ron Hubbard’s The Devil’s Rescue. Well, now they have another freebie in the form of a high quality 21-page Pirate Code booklet.

If the true history of pirates tickles your fancy, you may want to request for a copy of this booklet. Unfortunately, you will need to be in the United States and of course, you will be automatically signed up for their newsletter.

Free Mars Candy

Do you have a sweet tooth? If you do, here’s good news for you, but only if you are living in the United States. Awww, too bad, huh? Well, if you are eligible, every Friday, from 9am to 11.59pm, EST, from now till 25th September, 2009, Mars is offering 250,000 free coupons that you could redeem for Mars candy products.

If you are unfamiliar with Mars candy, Mars products include M&Ms, Milky Way, Snickers and Twix. YUMMY! Unfortunately, you will have to allow six weeks for delivery. I wonder if the candy would still be fresh when it reaches your doorstep. LOL

Free Texture Collections

While surfing the web randomly looking for nice freebies, I chanced upon this website called Newtek. Honestly, the name of this website doesn’t suggest anything nice or creative but it does give an impression of being hi-tech.

Out of curiosity, I visited the website and they do have freebies to give away. As far as I could see, they have a pretty quality collection of textures for download. The catch is that you would have to register as a member of Newtek website or forum to access all these freebies and more.

If you intend to download freebies from Newtek and use them, do check the terms of use first. Some designers may not allow you to use their freebies for commercial purposes.

Speech & Language Freebies

A friend, whose son is slightly autistic, told me that the doctor advised her to take up a short speech course in the capital city so that she could guide her son since at the age of six now, he still could hardly string a full sentence.

I understand from my friend that these courses are obscenely expensive even though the total cost of the course fees are to be shared among the parents who would be participating. But then my friend would also need to take accommodation and transportation costs into consideration since she is an out of town-er. This is why after a year, my friend has yet to enroll in the course.

I came across these speech-language pathology freebies this morning and wonder if these freebie resources would be useful to her. If you are using any of these, please acknowledge copyright owner.

Quality Web Graphic Freebies

Don’t you just love visiting the websites of graphic designers? I guess, even if the website of blog is non-commercial, the author still needs to make have a really artistic and creative layout to fit the theme of the site. If it’s a commercial site, with freebies, all the more the site has to be really captivating to showcase the talent of the owner.

I found this web designer site called My Grafico while looking for freebies just now. I believe this is the first time I landed on the site. I am pleasantly surprised to have found a whole load of quality freebie graphics. It looks to me like there are many contributing designers.

If you are looking for something different, this is a place to check out. I believe you will not be disappointed. Oh yes, please read the terms and conditions first before using these web graphic freebies!

Design Blurb Design Freebies

If you have been following my blog, you may remember that I wanted to start a website that offers free iPhone wallpapers. That never materialized. Basically, I just don’t have the time to take on another project and I have to admit that I am never creative enough to come up with something original, something good enough that people would want to download it!

Anyway, I was checking if there are new iPhone wallpapers offered online when I found Design Blurb. I believe I have not come across this design website before but I really like its header.

I haven’t finished going through the posts on this blog yet but so far, I can say that these freebies are all original works of Eli, as opposed to a bunch of freebies scoured and collected from all over the web.

Enjoy these freebies like I am enjoying Eli’s quality iPhone wallpapers. SIGH, do I even need to make my own??
