Free Piano & Guitar Music

It’s very weird that although we have a piano and guitar at home, I was never sent to music classes. My older brother and sister went to music school though, albeit only at elementary level because by the time I was old enough to go, my parents could no longer afford the lessons.

Yesterday, while looking for something online, by chance, I came upon this site called G Major Music Theory that offers free music lessons for piano and guitar. If you are just starting on the piano or guitar, this site also have music for beginners.

For each piece of music, you can download the music sheet in .pdf formal or listen to the audio clip to give you an idea of how the music sounds like.

A friend asked me why do I search all over the internet looking for free stuff to post on my blog without compensation. Well, I believe in helping to spread the word if something free is beneficial to people.

For The Love of Reggae & World Music

If you have read my old posts, you would know that I have been searching for sites that offer free music. Gone are the days of downloading songs from the internet, unless we want to risk being fined or jailed. Looking for quality original music is not easy but looking for free original reggae music is harder still.

This morning, I was told about a free reggae community site where members get to share their love for reggae music. Contributors are required to register with the website at http://www.versionist.com and although it is free, a minimum $4 contribution via PayPal to the site is much appreciated.

If you just want to listen to great reggae music, you don’t even have to register. I was even able to download the mp3 files to play on my computer or iPod. I think that Versionist is providing an excellent platform for aspiring reggae musicians and music lovers to share the love for reggae and world music.

Like I mentioned earlier, Versionist is a community portal so you can expect to find blogs, forums and sharing of photos and videos by members, apart from music. I checked out a couple of blogs and it is kind of cute that the blogs have the same layout as the homepage and forum.

My question is, are you a fan of Reggae, Accapella, Ska or World music? Visit Versionist and explore the talent of members! You will be surprised at their creativity!

Free Children’s Music

Many of today’s parents are very web savvy. They surf the web a lot looking for stuff for their young children like colouring pages, music, games and arts and crafts ideas. I chanced upon this site called Free Kids Music which is a database of children’s music where we can listen on the web or download to our computer.

I lost count how many tracks there are on this site but all the songs are neatly arranged according to alphabetical order of artists. This makes the site neat and user-friendly so navigation is a breeze.

These songs are all copyrighted and they are for personal use only. No way are we supposed to sell them or redistribute them in any way. So please do respect the intellectual property of the artists.

Win YOUR Song By Ben’s Brother

Who s Ben’s brother? I have no idea. As a matter of fact, I have no idea who is Ben either.

Anyway, we don’t need to know all these stuff. What I am sure you will be interested to know if how you can win a song from Ben’s Brother, and I don’t mean just about any song that you can get if you buy their album BUT a song that is penned based on your life story.

Now, Ben’s Brother wants us to submit a story of our life on how we overcame challenges in a particularly trying time in our life. I am sure everyone has an awful experience like this and if you are reading this post, it means that you have overcome that challenge and survived.

Go ahead and let Ben’s Brother know about this story. If yours is chosen by Ben’s Brother’s lead singer, among all other entries, perhaps based on your ability to spin a story, or the one that moves him to the most tears of the one that is the easiest to come up with a song from, then you will get a song. It’s that simple.

I thought this was supposed to be a contest but they did not mention any terms or requirements or even when this “contest” ends so that they can start selecting the best story.

If this is your kind of contest, it is worth participating. As for me, I need to come up with a “story”. :)

Free Music Tool Bar

If you have been following my blog, you will know that lately, I have been busy checking out sites that provide us with free music. Well, this information is much needed after we have been warned of a fine of MYR25,000 if we are caught to download music, movies and other intellectual material illegally.

While I have come across sites that provide free download of music or streaming of music, just now, I was told that we can download a free music toolbar from ListenTopia.com. This toolbar is compatible with both Internet Explorer and FireFox so it makes it very convenient for us to listen to music as we surf the web.

Using this free music toolbar from Listentopia.com, not only will we be able to listen to music endlessly, we will also get to contribute our music to the community to share with other members.

Imagine uploading your full library of songs from your iTunes or WinAmp playlists and stream online your favorite music wherever you are as long as you are connected to the internet!

Free 14-Day Trial of Rhapsody To Go

I am sure every music-loving web user has heard of Rhapsody. If you have not then you must have been living in a cave haha! Did you know that Rhapsody has a 14-day free trial of music downloads where we get to download five free songs during this trial period on top of having full access to the Rhapsody music player.

After this trial period, if we do not cancel our subscription, we would be billed US$14.99 per month. Just so you know, downloading of songs is a separate charge.

I am writing this post because I found out that many people are searching for options to download music legally, more so after the warning from the authorities that we will be fined MYR250,000 if we are caught to download illegal material like songs, movies and software.

Anyway, this offer by Rhapsody is only available for residents in the United States. However, even if I live there, I would not be subscribing because I don’t know how easy it is to unsubscribe from the trial. tsk tsk tsk!

Download Music For Free Legally

Now that we have been warned loudly and clearly that should we be caught downloading copyrighted media and software illegally, we would be fined MYR250,000, I am sure many internet users have stopped their activity and have been buying their music and movies. For awhile there, I also wondered if there will still be anymore free music for us. Well, I’ve got an iPhone to fill, you know!

So I did a search for free legal music downloads and found quite a number of websites and Jamendo is one of them. We would have to register with this site first before we are able to download music. The music here, I think, is by obscure or up and coming artistes and musicians, nothing from the A-listers from what I could see. However, there are 220082 active members downloading music from the 6142 published albums and I think there must be some gems here!

So, if you are looking for free music, Jamendo seems to be a great place to start exploring!
